Salary: $72,000 (80% time, 32ish hours a week)
THRIVE Downtown Attleboro is a non-profit Community Development Corporation designed to grow and maintain a network of creative economy stakeholders in the city of Attleboro, MA’s downtown. Our initiatives reinforce the city’s hands-on maker character with inclusive creative programs, outreach and training, as we forge lasting partnerships within the greater Attleboro community.
THRIVE Downtown Attleboro is seeking a dedicated Executive Director to amplify and nurture the creative economy and cultural life of downtown Attleboro. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively, lead teams, and operate independently while utilizing strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills. This is a hands-on, build-and-grow leadership role ideal for someone excited to shape and scale a developing organization. They are expected to roll up their sleeves and view all challenges as opportunities. This role is designed as a full-time leadership position, with an 80% schedule (32 hours per week), with compensation aligned accordingly. Current grant funding is supporting the director’s salary for one-year, with a strong focus on securing ongoing funding to sustain and grow the role. The Executive Director will report to the organization’s Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Lead THRIVE Downtown Attleboro in shaping and implementing a multi-year strategic plan with clear 1-year and 3-year goals.
- Apply best practices in nonprofit management and creative economy development to advance THRIVE’s mission.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to create, manage, and report on an annual budget that reflects strategic priorities.
Resource Development & Sustainability
- Lead fundraising strategy, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and partnership development to support programs, operations, and future salary sustainability.
- Cultivate partnerships and philanthropic relationships that strengthen THRIVE’s long-term impact and financial health.
Community Engagement & Partnership Building
- Build and maintain a vibrant, inclusive network of business owners, artists, developers, city officials, nonprofits, and residents.
- Serve as a connector and convener across sectors to align resources, ideas, and energy for downtown revitalization.
- Champion diversity, equity, and belonging in all programs, initiatives, and partnerships.
Program Development & Activation
- Bring downtown spaces to life through creative, accessible, and community-driven programming.
- Shape and oversee art-making and public art initiatives that foster creative collaboration and civic pride.
- Support mentorship opportunities that connect experienced community leaders with emerging entrepreneurs and underrepresented voices.
- Strengthen ad hoc partnerships and programs that enhance downtown vitality and creative engagement.
Communications & Visibility
- Lead THRIVE’s digital and public presence through effective storytelling, social media, and marketing campaigns.
- Promote downtown Attleboro as a destination for artists, visitors, and small businesses through compelling outreach and partnerships.
Additional Expectations: Occasional evening or weekend participation for community events and programs, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least five (5) years of professional leadership experience in nonprofit district management, real estate, community or economic development, or related fields.
- Successful experience in fundraising and ideally within the community development arena.
- Substantive administrative and contract management experience.
- Proven track record in grant writing, grant administration, and financial management.
- Expertise in developing benchmarks and metrics to track and report progress.
- Knowledge of the City of Attleboro and the southeastern Massachusetts region.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Holds a valid driver’s license and has access to a car at all times.
Technology Skills
- Proficient with Google Drive and Gmail systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Functional in Canva and other design software.
