Summary/Objective:
The Senior Manager of Development is a member of the Outreach team (development, public relations and partnerships). This position is responsible for the Corporate Giving Program at all levels and the Individual Giving Program (known as Annual Fund, Membership and the Friends Society), and works on fundraising for events including the Free Expression Awards. In addition, this individual assists the Vice President, Development with implementation of the institutional strategy as it relates to Development.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Vice President, Development the Senior Manager of Development:
- Manages, expands and coordinates the cultivation and solicitation of all corporate donors
- Manages, expands and coordinates the cultivation and solicitation of annual fund, membership and Friends Society giving
- Writes proposals and gift agreements for the Corporate and Friends Society Programs
- Conducts visits to meet, qualify, cultivate and solicit prospects for the Friends Society, including identifying current members and other annual donors for potential upgrades
- Leads strategies to develop annual giving campaigns for all donors
- Works with the Vice President, Development on fundraising efforts for institutional events including the Free Expression Awards and other donor cultivation events, including development of the steering committee, guest management, curated and donor audience development, sponsorship solicitation and fulfillment
- Manages and drafts donor communications including but not limited to monthly newsletters, donor event specific messaging (invites, reminders, etc.), major organization announcement and periodic stewardship updates
- Handles guest management for donor-related events
- Stewards individual and corporate donors appropriately with high level engagement and tailored opportunities
- Manages donor recognition, in coordination with the Vice President, Development.
- Assists the Vice President, Development with the management of the Council of Advisors, and with the ongoing task force for the continued development and refinement of the Council of Advisors
- Reviews all gift agreements
- Partners closely with the outreach, engagement and content teams to ensure compliance with gift agreements and sponsorships
- Assists the Vice President, Development in monitoring the budget throughout the year
- Monitors grant spending and providing updated budget reports to strategy teams
- Assists with execution and creation of donor, member and public events
- Assists the Vice President, Development with preparation of board materials including reviewing reports produced by Development Coordinator
- Leads fundraising projection discussions and provides projection updates as needed
- Performs other duties related to the goals of the Outreach Team as assigned
Competencies:
- 5+ years experience working in a development department or similar role
- Proficient in Raiser’s Edge or similar constituent relationship management databases and other Blackbaud products
- Demonstrated success in building long-term donor relationships and securing five and six figure gifts
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to speak comfortably, persuasively, and passionately to groups of various sizes
- Proven entrepreneurial abilities, creativity, initiative to expand donor base and maintain and grow donor relationships
- Engages with senior leadership to strategize on how to engage and steward donors and prospects
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, particularly in relation to donor strategy
- Proven skills in grant budgeting and monitoring, and in determining fundraising projections
- Adapts quickly to changing needs and circumstances; thrives in a fast-paced environment
- Manages multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including financial reporting and stewardship reporting
- Strong knowledge of and passion for First Amendment issues
Location: Washington, D.C.
Salary: $96,000 to $100,000
